These are so cute! I'm really nervous about making warming things with rice because someone told me it's not totally safe... but everyone seems to be using this technique so I'm guessing it's all good? =)
@nikkijoy I use and make rice bags every year. You can overcook them in a mircrowave, you just have to watch the time. That's all. I love these heart shaped warmers. Cute!
Please do not microwave synthetic fabrics! They can melt or burn. Always go with 100% cotton fabric and 100% cotton thread if you want to make warmers and bowl cozies. Felt and fleece are simply not safe to microwave!

ReplyDeleteThat's my name too...spelled exactly the same...how funny!!
I love this! I saw it posted on Craftgawker. Nice Job girl!
ReplyDeleteYou can also use flax seed... I make heat bags all the time, but instead of rice i use flax seed.
ReplyDeleteFor how long will they stay warm if you put them into your coat-pocket?
ReplyDeleteBe careful when microwaving felt--- I did this last winter and it BURNED in the microwave!
ReplyDeleteAnyone knows the time in the microwave to get ready to use??? and how long stay warm after that?
ReplyDeleteTry 15 seconds and see how warm they are and go from there. If they are not warm then I would continue to warm them at 5 second intervals.
DeleteThe instructions I received was: Heat for 30 seconds in microwave and make them out of fleece not felt.
